Delhi govt sets up entreprenuership council to boost start-ups, create new jobs

Delhi government has set up an advisory body to promote ease of doing business, boost new enterprises, fund start-ups and create new jobs in the city.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made the announcement about the formation of the 'entreprenuership council' at a press conference here today, which he said will submit its report in the next three months

Ease of doing business: Govt eases norm for availing export benefits

Exporters have been relieved from submitting the landing certificate of goods to avail benefits under the Merchandise Exports India Scheme (MEIS), a move aimed at facilitating ease of doing business.

Yesterday it broadened the ambit of merchandise exports schemes and has also planned 29 port-based coastal industrial centres, under coastal economic zones, to boost exports by $110 billion besides creating one crore new jobs. The clusters will be in the vicinity of India's top 12 major ports.

Despite successfully attracting several marquee investors, Telangana is disappointed with its not-so-pleasing 16th rank in the World Bank's ease-of-doing business index while its sibling Andhra Pradesh managed to grab the second rank. Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao (KTR), son of Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao, who took charge as industries minister last week, is now on a mission to achieve a better ranking this time. KTR talks to ET's CR Sukumar the measures being taken up.

Ease of Doing Business: Maharashtra makes first moves to better its ranking this year

Last year when the World Bank revealed its rankings of Indian states on ease-of-doing business, it placed Maharashtra in the 8th place in top 10 list. Needless to say, the ranking shocked the Devendra Fadnavis government which had taken various measures to remove bottlenecks for entrepreneurs.
A shocked state government later came to know that the World Bank had taken into account measures taken before June 1, 2015, by states.

How lakhs of residents in Mumbai would benefit from BMC's ease of doing business initiatives

In what could benefit lakhs of Mumbaiites, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is soon going to allow residents to make changes to their homes without taking a BMC clearance. 

BMC Commissioner Ajoy Mehta said that the BMC would empower citizens to make the changes to their homes unless it did not impact the structural stability of the building.

SUPREME COURT CLARIFIES PROTECTION OF SICK INDUSTRIAL COMPANIES

Questions around the interplay between the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act 2002, the Sick Industrial Companies (Special Provisions) Act 1985, the Recovery of Debts Due to Banks and Financial Institutions Act 1993 and the Companies Act 1956 have frequently arisen in various high courts and the Supreme Court.

In a recent decision by the Supreme Court in M/S Madras Petrochem Ltd v BIFR,1 this interplay was exhaustively revisited.

MORE SCHEMES COMING TO IMPROVE ‘EASE OF DOING BUSINESS’ RANKING

Hoping to push up India’s ranking in the Ease of Doing Business, the government has set itself a deadline of December this year to identify and roll out more investor-friendly measures.

The focus this time, according to various sources, will be to look at medium-term measures such as regulatory clearances and legislative amendments that will boost India’s score on the Ease of Doing Business index, compiled by the World Bank.
