To start with, the laws are confusing pertaining to my industry. The designing and printing industry has made their own rules for invoicing. Even though I should have the right to decide the amount that I am charging for my services but the government insists on keeping their authority and decides it for me. The government officials are not supportive and there is no consensus on the documents requested by different departments. They made me run from pillar to post without giving any clarity. I also did not receive any support from the financial institutions to start my own company. | - | Senior Department Officials | Vishal Arora | 9212513666 | plazagraphicz@gmail.com | I have read and I agree with the Privacy Policy mentioned below | Keep me updated about responses to my report and experience. | Yes

But I was 100% confident that it was badly needed in India. I worked with the relevant manufacturer and gained experience in its application and technical aspects. I started trading of these items and developed intimacy with the users. I surveyed their problems and needs, participated in technical seminars, borrowed money and got factory premises on rent. Only then could I start manufacturing, hire technical consultants. I implemented emotional intelligent marketing rather than intelligent marketing and maintained public relations with family members of the buyers. I never compromised on quality and kept on upgrading to international standards. I adhered to uniform pricing all over India and delivery schedules. I treated workers of my factory on par with family members, always gave credit of my success to them and never depreciated their human values. Not knowing anything about construction chemicals made it more difficult for me to start but also made me learn a lot through the journey. It was a tough time starting a business from the scratch. Registering my business was not an easy task. It took longer than expected to get started. Patience is what you need. If you have the capital you could hire someone to get your registration or any other formalities to be completed before you start. | Compromise makes a good umbrella, but a poor roof. Sky is not the limit, but it is just a beginning. Never think of short term gain. I studied lives of people who failed miserably but reached at the climax of their fame. Patience is what you need before and also after you start your business. Also maintain the integrity and do not forget your struggling period when you started your business. A degree, I term myself, " master of common sense " is constantly followed. | Keep it Anonymous | Anonymous | 9702230404 | servoshield@gmail.com | I have read and I agree with the Privacy Policy mentioned below | Keep me updated about responses to my report and experience. | Yes

People are unwilling to pay. Period. You can deal with all the bureaucracy, but what can you do if people just don't want to pay? Ad based model is not feasible for every product. Till now, I have mostly focused on the Indian market. I still think there is a huge opportunity. For example, consider admission process in educational institutes, their examination processes etc. Most of them are still manual and quite cumbersome. But like I said, to convince them to pay is quite a challenge. |
Costumers won't pay for your product, no matter how novel your idea. Even in a supposedly "free" market like ours, there is a lot of red tape. | Keep it Anonymous | Anonymous | - | abcd@gmail.com | I have read and I agree with the Privacy Policy mentioned below | Yes

In my opinion, it is absolutely not easy to conduct business in India. I tried to establish a brand that produces sunglasses in Ahemdabad, Gujarat. Aside from the total lack of information, I had to submit completely unnecessary documents. I fail to understand as to why my phone bill was required, when I’m already submitting another documents for address proof? I still don't know why they need so many documents. I did not have any foresight, and it was made worse by the bureaucracy at the government offices, where nobody really knew anything. I had to go to various offices and stand in the queue to figure out which document is required by which window. I also did not have a team, and thought I could do everything by myself - one can't fight the bureaucracy alone! |
I acted a bit prematurely in terms of starting a business, but I advise other budding entrepreneurs to establish a team from the start, and trust them. I thought I could run around and do the paperwork myself, but one requires legal help in establishing a business in this country for sure. You cannot do everything on your own even if you are of the idea that you know the procedures. If you want to excel in a certain sector, you need to know the sector in and out. | Media | Siddhant | 9033227176 | sjgupta010@yahoo.in | I have read and I agree with the Privacy Policy mentioned below | Yes

I have a farming related activity in Mumbai. Even in a city like Mumbai - city of dreams where people have so many aspirations, doing business is not that easy. Documentation was a big headache. Every time I had to submit some new documents. I had to bribe under the table to get my business registered. | I don't know what advice to give to others. I am new to the business. The only advice is get all your documents in place. | Keep it Anonymous | Anonymous | 9145510501 | abcd@gmail.com | I have read and I agree with the Privacy Policy mentioned below | Keep me updated about responses to my report and experience. | Yes

For me the problem was dealing with the labour. The problem is that they deserve better, but I cannot pay them more than the market for the fear of being noncompetitive and losing business. But then they don't care much for the money they are paid. Timelines, work ethics, etc. mean nothing to them. But I don't blame them. Right now it's Modi ji's kripa. My business is dead for next few months. No new projects are going to come in, as people are going to hold onto their money now especially if their net worth is less now maybe due to black money, or maybe due to crashed property. The future is uncertain. This policy is really anti-small trade business. People like Ambani selling the daily essentials to common men will not be affected, since demand will never drop. Then, there is also the fear of being prosecuted for something you haven't done wrong. For example, not deducting the right TDS, or putting the wrong tax. Kejriwal had come out with a system of code for each item. Nobody implemented it! We do our work, but need to keep up with stupid compliances, which are subject to whims and fancies of illiterate politicians- most of whom haven't seen a business meeting in their lives, I am sure! It just takes up so much of your time. Harassment by officials is a valid and certain threat. |

Other | Laziness on the part of officers |
I opened a sports shop in Gurgaon, which unfortunately did not work. However, my experience was mostly a pleasant one. Unlike most people, I chose not to hire a CA, mostly because I couldn't afford to spend so much money on something that I thought could be done alone. Unfortunately, I was made to run around a fair bit on my first day. It was quite taxing, and just when I thought there could be some progress, they broke for lunch. Now, there is some sort of an unwritten rule at these government offices- lunch breaks shall last for about double the time they are supposed to last. The stipulated break was from 1 pm to 2 pm, but I couldn't spot anyone at the office till about 2:45 pm, and the counter only opened at 3 pm. So much for efficiency. I ultimately got my work completed a week or so later, but not without lots of effort and running around from my side. |
