I decided to start my own marketing firm in Gurgaon, after I was quite dismayed with my previous job. However, I did not know anything about the procedure, so I consulted a CA about it. He told me a fairly decent amount for the registration, and told me that I needn't worry about anything. It took me a week to get my registration done, and I did not have any issues with it, mainly because my CA completed all my formalities. I had to only submit my Aadhar card and PAN card, nothing more. Since I didn't go to the office myself, I wouldn't know how many copies of each were required. |

My whole issue was not while setting up the actual business, but while conducting it here. I run a restaurant, and officials often come and ask for bribes. What would you do if a food inspector comes to your restaurant and demands a bribe for the inspection? If you don't comply he will file a report which claims he found 10 cockroaches at your facility, and shut you down until an investigation is completed. You don't have a choice. If you don't pay a bribe, you can't do business in India. Government officers won't even let you register your company or get basic approvals to function! |

I own a digital marketing agency and run a small cafe in Hyderabad. We offer premium web services, branding, content creation (including promo videos, blogs, etc) and PPC management for e-commerce clients and product companies who want a premium look and feel. This is my primary business. Starting the business wasn't an issue at all. Andhra Pradesh is very conducive when it comes to start-ups, so I didn't have too much of an issue, though I did hire a CA to look after the process. Overall, didn't really have any problems. |

I have a transport company of my own, and has been successfully running for nearly two years now. The setting-up took a bit of time, especially since the Himachal Pradesh police is a little prudent about your permits and such documents. But once I got it, it was a smooth sailing. I would say having someone who has the knowledge of the field is necessary and important- it helps to have someone who has established their business in the field. In my case, I had an uncle in the same transport business, so that helped me out immensely. |
Before starting a business, make sure to have a chat with someone who has already established themselves in the industry. Always take expert advice in the particular state you want to start and register your business because different states have different rules. Local advocates know the best way out and they will be able to help you. |

It was easy for my family to set up our medicines wholesale business. We tried to register our business, acquire land, register property, get permissions and licenses under labour laws, get building plan approved, get electricity connection, pay taxes, file returns under labour laws and tax laws. I would say it was easy for us to set up and register our business because we were ready to bribe the officials. In my opinion that is a given and probably is mandatory to get your work done. | My advice to other businessmen would be either be ready to bribe or have patience for the lengthy procedures and formalities in order to start and register your business or start up. |

I set up an IT firm in Jaipur, Rajasthan. According to me, the only issue I had with the registration process is the lack of information available for someone to start the business. Apart from registration, I also acquired land, and got permissions for labour and trading outside the state. That was pretty simple and easy. Once that is done, we were good to go. We did not find it to be a hassle. Working with the government was not half as difficult as I expected, at least that was my experience. There is some kind of prejudice against the government system. The hype about inefficient government is a myth. If your documents are in place, getting the work done at any government department is very easy. | Time might be an issue.
