Govt frames draft model law to allow shops to open round the clock

The government has framed a new model law that would allow cinema halls, restaurants, shops, banks and other such workplaces to be open 24/7. The law would also enable women to work during the night in such offices with mandatory cab services and other workplace facilities for them.

The government has put in public domain a draft Cabinet note on Model Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Services) Act 2015 for inviting comments from various Ministries and government departments.

Breather for small taxpayers: Proposals could be incorporated in Budget ’17

India’s Changes To Information Reporting For Non-Residents Set To Boost Ease Of Doing Business

The Indian government has released changes to the information reporting process for payments made to non-residents.  The changes, which were notified during December, were made effective January 4, 2016, and seek to create a balance between reducing the compliance burden and collecting sufficient information.

Govt focusing on ease of doing biz to boost exports: MSME Min

The government today said it is focusing on improving ease of doing business for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to increase exports from the country.

The focus of the government is on  Ease of Doing Business so that entrepreneurs, particularly in the MSME sector, are freed from all complications so that they are facilitated in their efforts to increase exports," MSME Minister  Kalraj Mishra.

Customs use committee to thrash out issues, facilitate ease of doing business

Central Board of Excise and Customs has declared this year as year of tax payer's services and separate directorate of tax payer services has been set up to further give thrust to this area. In line with PMs ease of doing business, several procedural simplification measure have been done including electronic delivery system, merging invoice/packing list, online transfer and processing of documents in respect of some reward schemes, dispensing with self-declaration form.

Govt to review 50-yr-old law on fulfilment of contracts

As part of Prime Minister   Narendra Modi's 'ease-of-doing-business' initiative, the government today set up an expert committee to review an over 50-year-old  law dealing with specific fulfilment of a contract.

 

The committee set up by the Legislative Department in the Law Ministry will review the Specific Relief Act, 1963, keeping in mind the present scenario involving contract-based infrastructure, public-private partnerships and other public projects involving huge investments and enforceability of the contracts.

GST roll-out will improve ease of doing business: Assocham

Imposition of goods and services tax (GST) will improve the ease of doing business in the country apart from giving a uniform market to producers, Sunil Kanoria, President, Assocham, said here on Wednesday.

Political parties must come together to allow passage of the GST Bill in the Parliament for the sake of the country. Not only will it improve the ease of doing business and create uniformity of taxation; it also has the ability to push the GDP up by at least 1.5 per cent,” he told reporters during a press conference by the apex chamber.

Ease of doing business: Govt to speed up company incorporation process

Government will set up the Central Registration Centre (CRC) to speed up services for incorporation of companies as part of larger efforts to further improve ease of doing business in the country.

 Apart from providing timely approvals, CRC will help ensure uniformity in application of rules and do away with discretion. CRC, being established by the  Corporate Affairs Ministry under the initiative of Government Process Re-engineering (GPR), will be formally operational from January 27.

E-governance to increase efficiency: Pranav Sayta

The committee set up by the government in October 2015 has done a commendable job by issuing its first batch of recommendations in a short span of less than three months. The recommendations are on issues, which are simple but need immediate attention, in the areas of curbing litigation and ease of doing business. The recommendations are open for public comments, reflecting an appreciated consultative approach on the part of the government.

The committee has suggested various measures to avoid delays in issue of refunds, such as granting of refunds without awaiting completion of assessments, higher interest on delays and precluding set-off of refunds against demands without dealing with taxpayers' objections. Taxpayers struggling to receive timely refunds would surely applaud these recommendations.
