Getting the permits was not an issue, apart from finding information about it. I did everything myself, and got all the permits within a month, and my food supply company was up and running within six weeks. The real problem arises after you start the business. The attitude of customers/vendors/clients. People feel no remorse about wasting someone's time, or indulging in petty cheating. Of course things like these are present in the west too, but the magnitude is different. Oh, and this is more present in North India than in South! This reflected even while I was getting my permits- people just wasted everyone else's time, if it meant getting their work done five or ten minutes earlier. |

I remember that for days, I had to run around in the office to get the license. Every time I met them, they asked for some other documents. Coming from Rohini to Faridabad is in itself a great challenge especially when Diwali is already nearby. | Take as many documents as you can to the government office. You never know what the offiicials ask for or else you have to waste your one or more days. But the officials kept on delaying for reasons only known to them. Every time we went to the office to submit the documents asked to submit, we were asked for some different documents. Then we approached an agency and they were able to do the work easily. So we were not able to register by ourselves and had to approach a third party. |
For registering business, the process will be easier only when you approach some agencies or know some insider. Many agencies have come up with packages as the process is cumbersome. I am doing this business since almost three decades. It was not so easy to start as you have to understand the laws of RTO. To get the permit for the autorickshaw is a difficult task. You have to run around and make sure you show your face to the concerned officer everyday. After submitting a big bunch of documents, another requirement came over with 20 additional points which was not relevant to us. We appeared 5-6 times in order to settle the case and finally we had to carry 20 files and folders with us to show them few invoices of their consent. Then we needed something else to close the case as he was not able to find any fault in records. |

I helped to register a non-governmental organisation in the social sector in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The number of documents required to do the work was boggling, and very troublesome. It was quite a task to get a VAT certificate for our social enterprise. It took close to a year, as the process was lengthy and the officials kept asking for newer documents at every visit. |

It wasn’t easy for me start the business. I made an attempt to register my business and my experience of registering it was not at all a good experience. The information regarding the processes involved in registering the business is not at all lucid and clear. I had to wait in the queue for more than two hours until my number was called. And there was a coupon system in place and the coupons were available only until 11.00 am.
